Terry Stubbings becomes Liverpool’s first town crier in 200 years
The winner of the Liverpool town crier auditions was 65-year-old Terry Stubbings.
His win follows an intensive shout-off outside the town hall on Thursday which attracted crowds of people.
Judges said Terry's 14 years of experience as Lincoln's town crier gave him the edge over his three competitors.
They were also impressed by his self-penned cry which included the lines: “Welcome all to Liverpool, the city with a heart.
"We have so much to offer, I don’t know where to start.”
Terry’s duties will involve welcoming international passengers at the cruise liner terminal and acting as an ambassador during high-profile events.
He said: “I’m over the moon to be Liverpool’s official town crier – I knew I was up against three really strong competitors and we were all desperate for the title so I’m delighted to come out on top...Liverpool really does have the wow-factor.”
